Though Mintage World is a venture that was established by an Indian Company – Ultra Group of Industries, it has managed to cross borders and win the hearts of many. It was a defining moment when Team Mintage World participated in one of the World’s Most Awaited Currency Shows – World’s Fair of Money 2016 that was held from 9th to 13th August at Anaheim, California.
As per official reports, a total of 8,192 people attended the World’s Fair of Money 2016 which included 2,986 members of the public and 3,390 ANA members. Dealers from all over the world presented a wide range of rare and interesting currency notes and coins. Sushilkumar Agrawal, MD of Ultra Media and Entertainment and the founder of Mintage World, met prominent members of the ANA and CSNS, and exchanged ideas that would contribute towards increasing the online knowledge base for preserving this hobby. He believes that through the study of currency notes, coins and stamps one can learn about interesting facets of a nation’s history. To take this idea forward, Mintage World takes pride to be one of the associate sponsors of the event.
Apart from the dealers selling their collectibles and doing good business, World’s Fair of Money 2016 also fared extremely well at the auctions. Almost $60 million in coins and paper money was traded and Stack’s Bowers Galleries sold more than $21 million worth collectibles, whereas Heritage made more than $38 million. The star coins at the auction were a 1792 Silver Center cent and a 1792 Birch cent, which together fetched $869,500. The 1798/7 Capped Bust $10 eagle realized $352,000.
Then there were many educational seminars on various topics throughout the World’s Fair of Money 2016 that were addressed by some of the most prominent numismatists and experts of the domain. Mintage World is a vision by Mr. Sushilkumar Agrawal, which aims at educating its audience, be it experts, researchers or students or new collectors. The website boasts of one of the biggest database of detailed and well-categorized information about Indian coins, notes and stamps.
Then there were collector exhibits at the World’s Fair of Money 2016 which competed for different kinds of awards. These exhibits displayed some of the rarest and unique collections that you might have never come across before. ANA’s highest honour, the Farran Zerbe Memorial Award was presented to Mark and Myrna Lighterman in recognition of the years of outstanding, dedicated service to numismatics.
We would love to take you through some memorable instances from the World’s Fair of Money 2016 through pictures.
