2018-06-11 Mon
The Vora collection of India airmail postal history will be offered on sale through a public auction by Daniel F. Kelleher Auctions on 20th June at Kelleher’s offices in Danbury, Conn. The India Study Circle for Philately will be offering more items from the collection. An artifact delivered by the world’s first official airmail flight on 18th February 1911 is one of the highlights. The 5-mile flight took off from an Allahabad polo field, flew over the Yamuna River and landed in Naini. Henri Pequet was the French Pilot who carried almost 6,000 mails.
The offered cover is folded horizontally through the address but is a scarce philatelic item offered with an estimate of $300 to $400. Many other covers from the 1920s to 1940s, with first flights, unusual cachets, exhibition souvenirs etc. would be offered at the auction.
