Kuntala Janapada Coin Sold for INR 10,000

Kuntala Janapada was one of the sixteen Mahajanapadas of ancient India. Today, it includes the region of the Southern part of Maharashtra and northern part of Karnataka. >br>In ‘Markandeya Purana’ Kuntala Janapada is listed under the country of Madhya Desha. According to the Mysore Inscription Kuntala region includes the southern part of Bombay presidency and the northern part of Mysore. During the ancient times, Kuntala region was also ruled by Nanda Dynasty.
This silver 1 ½ Shana which weighs around 1.5g was issued form Kuntala Janapada. On the obverse, the coin depicts 'pulley’ symbol. This coin was sold for INR 10,000 in Classical Numismatic Gallery Auction held in Delhi on 19th May 2018.
