2018-01-25 Thu
What attracts you the most when you see a coin?Hmm…Metal or symbol or both? While the symbols play an important role in Numismatics. A coin without a symbol would just be a sole piece of a metal. All the symbols of the ancient coins were perceived and inspired by nature.
Have a look at a given coin, it is an uninscribed copper coin of Ancient Malwa weighing 4.47 grams. The obverse depicts man and woman standing facing front, a swastika on top right and river with fishes below. The reverse has an Ujjain symbol with taurines within the orbs.
This tiny metal piece was sold for INR 3,400 at Classical Numismatics Gallery. The obverse of this coin is really fascinating, isn’t it?
