Today we will be discussing a second marvelous creation of the ancient world that is the Hanging Gardens of Babylon. Can you imagine a tall hundred feet lush green tower in desserts? The thought is indeed marvelous! But who would dare to build such a monument like this in the sandy land of Babylon?
Let us see the story behind it…
According to one legend, it is believed that Nebuchadnezzar II, the Babylonian king who ruled 605 to 562 BC, had built this garden for his beautiful wife Amytis who came from the green lands. After coming to Babylon she was depressed by seeing the dry weather! So in order to make her happy, Nebuchadnezzar II built this for her…
The garden was built in a tower and had various types of trees, shrubs, vines, etc. The Hanging Garden was as tall as 80 feet. Various Greek and Roman scholars like Herodotus, Strabo, Diodorus Siculus, etc mentions about this grand marvel. And it is considered as one of the seven wonders of ancient world.
But beautiful things always have controversies! After the research, archaeologist states that there are no ruins found of this wonder in Babylon. Also, it is very difficult to get a supply of water on the slanting slope of the hanging garden. So what do you think about this ancient hanging wonder, was it just an imaginary tower of Babylon?
The given stamp of the Republic of Congo can give you hints of how the Hanging Garden of the Babylon must have been like.
Last time, we gave you the glimpse of the Great Pyramid of Giza.
