Gupta Dynasty was founded by Maharaja Sri Gupta in late 3rd century CE. The period of Gupta rule is considered as ‘Golden Age’, in Indian history, as the period had vitness significant improvement in poetry, writing, drama, mathematics and astronomy. Kalidasa, great Indian poet and playwriter, flourished during this period. Aryabhata, who lived during 5th century, predicted that the earth spun on its own axis during this period.The emperor Chandragupta II , issued this archer type gold dinaras during his rule. The obverse of the coin features King nimbate holding bow in the middle, 'Chandra' in Brahmi below arm, Garuda standard behind, with Brahmi legend 'Deva Sri Maha[rajadhiraja sri chandraguptah] around. The reverse feature Goddess Ardoksho nimbate seated on a throne, holding diadem and cornucopia with tamgha to left, Brahmi legend 'Shri Vikramah' in the right field.
