Pobjoy Mint released the last coin from its popular Big Five African Animals coin series. The coin depicts a buffalo’s head in high relief and is struck in 2oz Fine silver for Sierra Leone. The incused rim depicts an African pattern as per the theme. The 62.21 grams coin has a diameter of 50 millimetres and a mintage limit of 500 pieces. It comes in a specially designed acrylic box with an outer printed sleeve that contains the Certificate of Authenticity.
Buffalo is the only animal out of the Big 5 which is not endangered. Water buffaloes are used for preparing agricultural lands or for carrying heavy objects. The African buffalo can be very unpredictable at times and are used for protection from other predators such as lions and crocodiles. They also have a reputation for attacking hunters if required.
