According to an official press release issued on 23rd April, the Reserve Bank of India will be soon introducing new Rs 500 currency banknotes featuring the signature of RBI governor Shaktikanta Das. No other design changes would be made to the already circulating 500 Rs note. The ones in circulation will continue to be legal tender. These Banknotes belong to the Mahatma Gandhi (New) Series.
It was also announced on the same day that RBI would be issuing new Rs 200 denomination banknotes in Mahatma Gandhi (New) series featuring the signature of Shaktikanta Das. All other aspects of the design would be similar to the Rs 200 banknotes in Mahatma Gandhi (New) Series which are currently in circulation.
