Pobjoy Mint released a new Proof Sterling Silver commemorative coin to celebrate the 175th Anniversary of the Penny Black Stamp. The coin was issued on behalf of the Isle of Man Government.
Penny Black was the first adhesive stamp issued by Britain in 1840. The stamp showing the profile of the young Queen Victoria made philatelic history and became popular as “Penny Black”.
The Cupro Nickel and Sterling Silver editions both are having the lustrous 'pearl black' finish. The obverse of the coin carries an incused effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and the reverse depicts the penny black stamp.
