The three-day High Security Printing Asia 2018 international conference was organised in Hanoi, Vietnam on Wednesday, last week. During this conference, Thailand’s latest 1,000 baht banknotes, issued on 28th July to honour His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn’s birthday, received the Best New Banknote Award. An innovative printing technology has been applied on the banknotes using optically variable magnetic ink. OVMI has never been used on banknotes before this. It creates 3D moving patterns and changing colours when you look at the notes from different angles. This high-tech security feature will prevent counterfeiting activities to a great extent.
New versions of 500 baht banknotes were also released along with the latest 1,000 baht banknotes. The older version of 1,000-baht note was introduced in September 2015 under late King Bhumibol. This note had also won an Award for Banknote Excellence.
