The life and Legacy of the pioneer American Novelist Mark Twain is celebrated by in America in the most notable manner. Us Government issued series of stamps since 1985 to memorialize the work this celebrated novelist.The US government issued stamps featuring Mark Twain as earlier as 1940.
The 10¢ stamp issued in 1940 honours Mark Twain with his Real name Samuel L. Clemens and showing a portrait of the author as part of the Famous Americans. The 8¢ stamp of 1972 featuring a scene by Norman Rockwell showing two boys and half painted fence.
In order to celebrate Twain’s 150th birth anniversary in combination with the return of the Halley’s Comet to the solar system a notable stamp was issued in 1985. This 6¢ aerogram shows Mark Twain riding Halley’s Comet along with his quote about the comet. Whereas, it’s reverse side shows Huckleberry Finn – one of the fictional character of his novels, the steamboat and the Comet.
Huckleberry Finn reappears on a 29¢ U.S. stamp issued in 1993 as a part of four stamp set, the central image of which shows Huck with a fishing pole gazing at a steamboat.
The most recent issue came in 2011, where the author was honoured on a commemorative forever stamp showing his portrait with a steamboat in background
