The Princely State of Alwar located in the north eastern part of Rajasthan today. It was founded by the Mahraja Pratap Singh by pushing back the Jats of Bharatpur. Alwar was the first princely State to use coin minted in the Calcutta mint during British Raj. Sheodan Singh was ruler of Alwar from 1857 to 1874 AD.
During the reign he issued copper and silver coins in the denomination of Nazarana Rupee, Rupee, and Takka from Rajgharh mint. This is a beautiful Silver Nazarana Rupee issued in the reign of Sheodan Singh. Persian legend ‘Sikka Mubarak Mallika-e-Muazima Takht Nasheen Dar-ul-Sultanate Englistan Sanah Iswi’ inscribed on the obverse face of a coin. The reverse of this coin depicts the legend ‘Maharao Raja Sawai Sheodan Singh Bahadur Sikka Julus Zarb Rajgarh’.
