Mother Teresa 5 Rupee Commemorative Coin

“Be faithful in small things because it is in them that your strength lies”

This famous quote was once said by Mother Teresa. Her name was Anjezë Gonxhe Bojaxhiu, She was born on 26 August 1910 in Skopje, today's Macedonia, of Albania. At the early age, she cherished the desire to- 'Go out and give the love of Christ'. She was a Catholic nun who came to India in the year 1929. In the year 1950 she founded an organization known as ‘Missionaries of Charity’ it is a philanthropic organization based in Calcutta. For over 45 years she cared for the poor, sick, orphaned, and dying. For this great work she had also received many awards like ‘Padma Shri’ in 1962, ‘Jawaharlal Nehru Awards’ in 1969, ‘Bharat Ratna’ in the year 1980 ‘Ramon Magsaysay Awards’ and the ‘Nobel Peace Prize’ in the year 1979.

Indian Government had issued 5 Rupee commemorative coins illustrating the portrait of Mother Teresa on 28 August 2018. The obverse of this coin depicts the image of Mother Teresa in the centre with the date 1910-2010 below. The inscription ‘MOTHER TERESA’ both in Devanagari and Roman in the top half periphery and the inscription ‘Janmashtami’ in Devanagari and ‘BIRTH CENTENARY’ in Roman on the bottom half periphery. The reverse side of the coin depicts ‘Ashokan Lion’ in the centre with the inscription ‘Satyameva Jayate’ and the value ‘5’ below, the inscription ‘Bharat’ and ‘India’ is written on the left and right side of the coin.
