In ancient India, many kingdoms rose and fell. They not only had a strong hold on their territory but are also known to issue coins. One such ancient Kingdoms of India was Chedi, lying in the region of Bundelkhand (Madhya Pradesh). They ruled from its capital Suktimati (Sotthivati-nagara). It is also known to be one of the sixteen mahajanapadas.The featured silver punch marked coin (400 to 350 BCE) was issued by Chedi.
