2018-01-13 Sat
The Delhi High Court rejected a PIL filed by two people from Delhi residents who wanted to withdraw the coins released in 2010 and 2013 with images of Brihadeeswara Temple and Mata Vaishno Devi, respectively. The High Court mentioned that the coins do not affect the country's secular fabric and secularism. Also, they stated that, there are no such restrictions on the issuance of coins to commemorate any event. The court also mentioned that the decision was based on the Coinage Act, 2011 and reinstated that there was no favouritism or discrimination in this case. Those who filed the PIL believed that depicting religious symbol on coinage is like embracing a particular religion by the State.
