This silver Tanka was issued by Bengal Sultanate which was a part of Delhi Sultanate. It was sold for INR 1,10,000 by Todyawalla Auctions on 4th November 2017 in Mumbai..The Sultanate of Bengal came under Muhammad bin Sam during his conquest of North India till the delta of Ganga and Brahmaputra. The coin of Bengal Sultanate was issued under the authority of Delhi Sultanate. Since the capital was far away, administration of this region was difficult. That’s the reason why administrators or governors of Bengal periodically exercised their freedom.
The featured coin was issued in the name of Emperor of Iltutmish. The obverse of this coin depicts a horseman or King facing left holding a mace within a circle and around it Kalima, mint name and date is inscribed. The reverse of this coin depicts Persian legend ‘Al Sultan Al Muazzam Shams Al Dunya Waaldin Abu Al Harith Iltutmish Al Qutbi Nasir Al Momineen’.
