The Majestic Eldorado Collection to be Auctioned by Stack’s Bowers
2017-12-27 Wed
The Eldorado Collection consists of various interesting and rare Colombian coins. It has been put together over several years of research and dedication. Highlights include the first gold coin of the New World–the 1622 2 Escudos struck in Cartagena, at the Bogotá Mint. The coin has a long history of 350 years. Representatives of the Spanish crown unearthed the earliest coins. 19th-century coins showed that Colombians were wealthy and were leaders in trade. Both gold and silver coins are a part of this collection.Gold onzas from colonial times and their descendants showcased European workmanship. Smaller denominations were meant for local circulation. The silver coins in the collection consist of cobs, from Cuartillos to 8 Reales; rare Pillar types; portrait coins featuring Carlos III and Carlos IV, many of which were struck under the regime of Ferdinand VII.
No Colombian collection has so many unique and interesting coins. It is the best in terms of quality and completeness. The Eldorado Collection of Colombian and Ecuadorian Coins will be offered at the 2018 Stack’s Bowers New York International Numismatic Convention (NYINC) Auction on 8th January and 13th January 13 at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in New York City.
