Royal Canadian Mint Issues its first Concave/Convex Coin

2016-02-12 Fri

For the first time in the history of Canada, a concave/convex $25 was released by The Royal Canadian Mint to celebrate the 140th anniversary of the Library of Parliament on 28th January 2016.

By using relatively new technology, the coin’s reverse features the domed ceiling portraying the Library’s neo-gothic architecture. The concave design evokes the airiness of the high-domed ceiling.

The Library of Parliament is not only an architectural wonder but also a reflection of Canada’s parliamentary traditions. The coins obverse bears the current Susanna Blunt effigy of the queen.
