Chapel Turned Into a Museum of Coins

The Rien Baht Chapel or “Chapel of One-baht Coins” is part of Wat Ban Thung Klet in Tambon Na Hukwang in Prachuap Khiri Khan, Tap Sakae. Followers and supporters of the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej are decorating the outer walls of the chapel with one-baht coins worth almost Bt3.7 million. 75 percent of the work is already completed.The construction began in 2014. Buddhists were invited to decorate the temple with coins on 12th August 2016. The temple would be completely built by 2019 and the final cost is estimated at Bt10 million.
The initial motive was to teach Thai children the value of one-baht coins. King Rama IX coins would become scarce after some years now. The temple will become a museum and will help future generations to study coins minted during his time.
