Australian Coins Celebrate International Day of People with Disability

The Royal Australian Mint released a commemorative 20 cent coin to celebrate the 25th anniversary of International Day of People with Disability on 14th November. The coin honours the important roles played by people with disabilities. It also creates awareness about providing recognition and support to those in need. The special day is sanctioned by United Nations and is observed on 3rd December annually.The coin depicts the global logo of International Day of People with Disability in an artistic way. The coins will be offered on sale to the public. A commemorative prepaid envelope and stamp were also released. Paralympian and patron of the 2017 International Day of People with Disability - Mr. Dylan Alcott OAM is featured on the coin and envelope packaging.
Officials stated that it is our duty to empower people with disability and encourage them to live the life of their choice. People need to start a conversation about disability at their workplace, school or community so that more awareness is created and nobody in the country feels neglected or left-out.
