Bengal Sultan Fath Shah's Coin Sold For INR 2,50,000

Jalal Al-Din Fath Shah was the last ruler of Ilyas dynasty of Bengal. He was the brother and the successor of Shams Al-Din Yusuf.Coins of Jalal Al-Din Fath Shah are most fascinating. He was an educated and a devoted ruler and this reflects on his coins. Most of his coin bear the normal title spread on both sides of the coins. Some of his coins are also found with the other title on the obverse and ‘Shahada’ on the reverse. Coin with the images of lion and Chakra were also issued by him.
This mintless gold tanka issued by him was sold for INR 2, 50,000 at Rajgor’s Auction. The weight of the coin is around 10.4g. The obverse of the coin is inscribed as ‘Al Sultan ibn Al Sultan Jalal Al-Dunya wa’l Din Abul Muzaffar Fath Shah .......Mahmud Shah Al-Sultan’ and reverse of the coin is inscribed with ‘Shahada’.
