Those issued in the initial year(s) of his reign (Hijri 917) weigh 10–10.2 g, while those minted at Chanderi weigh 8.5–9 g.The legend on the coins reads: Al-Wathiq Bi'l-Malik Al-Samad Abul Muzaffar Mahmud Shah Bin Nasir Shah Al-Khalji Al-Sultan Khallada Mulkahu. Issues from the Chanderi mint bear a distinctive heart-shaped mint mark.
