Royal Mint and the National Trust came together to celebrate the 375th birth anniversary of one of the most phenomenal scientists of the millennium - Sir Isaac Newton, in a numismatic way! As few as 375 new Sir Isaac Newton 2017 50p circulating coins will be released at Woolsthorpe Manor in Lincolnshire, which is Newton's birthplace. More coins would be circulated across the country over a period of time.The coins released in Woolsthorpe Manor would be rare and sought after by collectors as it will have a 2017 date. Apart from being a great scientist in the field of physics and astronomy, Isaac Newton was also Master of the Royal Mint for almost 30 years. He became Warden of the Mint in 1696, at the age of 53. The "gold standard" in UK’s coinage was established with the help of a report that he produced in 1717.
Gold, silver and collectable brilliant uncirculated versions can also be purchased from the gift shop at Woolsthorpe Manor or from the Royal Mint website.
