Rafi-ud-Darjat Gold Mohur Sold for INR 1, 35,000

Rafi-ud-darjat was the 10th ruler of the Mughal Empire. He was the son of Rafi-us-Shan. He succeeded Farrukhsiyar in the year 1719 AD. He sat on the Mughal throne with the help of Sayyid brothers. Rafi-ud-Darjat was very intelligent but he was controlled by the Sayyid brothers. Sayyid brothers wanted Rafi-ud-Darjat of be their puppet and also tried their best to reduce his power. There were very few revolts which took place during the reign of Rafi-ud-Darjat, but it was successfully suppressed by Sayyid brothers. There was little rebellion from Nikusiyar, son of Muhammad Akbar, but with the help of Sayyid brothers, he was defeated. Rafi ud-Darjat was succeeded by his brother Rafi-ud-Daula, Rafi-ud-Daula is also popularly known as Shah Jahan II.

This gold mohur which weighs around 10.9g minted in Dar-ul-Khilafat Shahjahanabad during the first year of his reign was sold for INR 1, 35,000 at Todywalla Auction. The obverse of the coin is inscribed with the name and title of the king and reverse of the coin is inscribed with the mint name and regnal year Ahad.
