A 1925 Norse American Centennial silver medal made out of a thin planchet, graded MS-66 with a green CAC sticker was sold for $9,106.25 at Heritage's Summer FUN sale. The offered coin is not a commemorative coin but is generally collected along with commemorative half dollars that have been issued between 1892 and 1954. 33,750 Norse silver medals were struck on thick planchets at the Philadelphia Mint and only 6,000 were struck on thin planchets. 100 gold examples were also issued.
The medal is octagonal in shape and features a Viking theme making it desirable among collectors. It has rich gold, lavender-gray and deeper blue toning.
