Akbar’s Ahmedabad mint coins

Ahmedabad is the capital of Gujarat. Akbar captured Gujarat in the year AH 980 and started minting coins in his name. He issued gold, silver and copper coins from this mint. Gold and copper coins were issued till AH 988 from this mint. Silver coins were issued regularly with the Hijri date till AH 1004, after which coins with the Ilahi dates were also issued. Coins with the mint epithet ‘Dar-ul-Khilafat’ and ‘Dar-ul-Sultanate’ are also seen. Kalima type coins in a square shape with the ‘Ilahi date’ are also issued from this mint.This silver rupee ilahi type coin was issued by him during the 47th year of his reign. The obverse of the coin is inscribed as ‘Allah Akbar Jale Jalaluhu’ within the quarter foiled border. And the reverse of the coin is inscribed as ‘Ilahi date 47, Ilahi month Mihir and Mint name Ahmedabad within Octagonal Borders’.
