Mexico 60 Pesos Error Coin Struck on U.S. $10 Liberty

The 1916 Gold 60 Pesos featuring the portrait of Benito Juarez were struck in Oaxaca, which is one of the southern states of Mexico. They were struck by a Provisional Government during the revolution and almost 100 years ago, the original dies were confiscated. The 1916 Oaxaca Gold 60 Pesos were 0.8590 fine, weighed 50.0000g and are made of 1.3808735351327oz gold. The U.S. $10 Liberty Gold coins are 0.9000 fine, weighs 16.7200g and are made of 0.4837oz gold.The Smithsonian Collection features the Mexico 1916 Oaxaca Gold 60 Pesos, which is one of the 21 pieces that were minted. It has a market value of $20,000 in XF40 and $35,000 in MS60. A gem specimen was sold for $74,750.
The gold error coin shown above is in uncirculated condition with original toning. The understrike detailing is great. The denticles and detail from the $10 Liberty design can be seen on the obverse. The shield and other details are seen on the reverse. The reeding from the $10 Liberty is completely present. This rare and unique coin will soon catch the eyes and fancies of collectors all over the world.
