British Columbia and Vancouver Island, New Brunswick, Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, and Prince Edward Island were the Canadian Provinces, also known as British North America, which issued stamps until 1949. There is a lot of demand for these stamps among collectors. The popular New Brunswick 12½¢ Steam and Sailing Ship stamp belongs to one of the affordable Canadian provinces sets. These stamps were issued in 1860-63 and were from the first set that used new decimal currency when the colony changed its currency from pence, shillings, and pounds to dollars and cents. The stamp is also popular among topical stamp collectors. Stamps in unused original gum condition have a market value listed as $100; in used condition, its market value is listed as $75 and in mint never-hinged condition, it has a market value listed as $200.
The margins are small as the design occupies a lot of space. The perforations mostly cut into the stamp design. Stamps without faults like these are more valuable and those with minor faults can be obtained at discounted rates.
