Gold Mohur of Shah Jahan sold for INR 70,000

This gold mohur was issued by Shah Jahan during the 20th year of his reign. Shah Jahan was the fifth Mughal Empire to be seated on the Mughal throne in the year 1628 and continued until his death 1658. He was one of the greatest emperors of the Mughal Empire. During his reign, India became the richest center of art, crafts, and architecture. He is better known for ‘Taj Mahal’ which he build in the memory of his beloved wife ‘Mumtaz Mahal’.This rare gold mohur which weighs around 10.8g was sold for INR 70,000 at Todywalla Auction. The obverse of the coin is inscribed as ‘Shahjahan Badshah Gazi within the square, Mint name Lahore and RY 20 is written in the margin below. And the reverse side of the coin is inscribed with the Kalima within the square with the name of the caliphs written around in the margin. AH, date 1057 is written on the right side in the margin.
