Centenary of World War I
2017-07-24 Mon
The Royal Mint UK is all set to issue commemorative coins to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of World War I.These .999 Fine Silver Coins and 999.9 Fine Gold Coins, designed by sculptor Philip Jackson, look back to the events of 1917 and the adversities during a brutal war. It also tells stories of the sacrifices made in the war in the pursuit of peace.
The overall design of the coin is inspired by the poetry of Rudyard Kipling. The addition of oak leaves to the laurel wreath symbolises Britain and the victories won, while we are reminded of the human cost of war in the image of a lone soldier in silent reflection.
The year-dated coin - 2017- marks 100 years on from 1917. Just 50 specimens of Gold Proof editions will be struck, and each coin will be accompanied by a booklet with imagery specially sourced by Imperial War Museums and 450 specimens of Fine Silver editions, finished to Proof standard, will be struck.
Hurry and book for yourself a piece of world history.
