Muhammad Bin Tughluq was a Sultan of Delhi. He was the eldest son of Ghiyath-al-Din Tughluq, the founder of Tughluq dynasty. Tughluq dynasty ruled Delhi From 1320 AD -1414AD.Muhammad Bin Tughluq has a unique place in Indian history. He rose to the power in 1325 AD. He shifted his capital, including his residence, from Delhi to Deogiri and renamed it as Daulatabad. Coinage of Muhammad bin Tughluq is the most complex and innovative of the entire Delhi Sultanate. He also introduced token currency in India for the first time. He tried to switch currencies from silver to brass and copper.
This gold mohur which he had struck in the name of Abbasid Caliph ‘Al-Hakim II’ weighs around 10.6g. The obverse of this coin is inscribed as ‘Fi Zaman Al-Imam Amir Al-Muminin Al-Hakim Bi-Amir’. And the reverse is inscribed as ‘Allah Abul Abbas Ahmad Khallada Mulkahu’.
This gold coin was sold for INR 38,000 at Todywalla Auction.
