2017-07-19 Wed
The Stack’s Bowers Galleries offered an 1896-S Barber quarter dollar, PCGS AU-58+, CAC at the Whitman Coin and Collectibles Expo in Baltimore in June for $14,100. The Blue Moon Collection was assembled decades ago and has hit the again market after several years. It is one of three popular key-date San Francisco Mint coins in the series, like the 1901-S and 1913-S Barber quarter dollars. Most of the total of 188,039 1896-S Barber quarters entered circulation, very few exist in Mint State today. This particular bid was better than low-end Mint State examples that have been sold recently.
