Rare O-108 Marriage of 1806 Draped Bust Half Dollar

The 1806 Draped Bust, Knobbed 6, No Stem Through Claw half dollar, graded Very Good 8, is one of the most sought after varieties for the series. Only seven examples of the die marriage exist, out of which two have big die breaks on the reverse. The rating R-8 means “one to three known”. One of these two examples was a part of the Don Frederick Collection for over 30 years. This very coin is being offered being offered by Sheridan Downey from Sheridan’s Coins till 2nd August for an estimate of $60,000 to $80,000.The variety has a knobbed 6 in the date on the obverse and the olive stem on the reverse does not cross the eagle’s claw. The O-108 marriage is the only 1806 Knobbed 6 variety with the No Stem Through Claw reverse. The coin pattern was discovered in 1976 in Hawaii as well as in Brooklyn at the same time. Only one of the then three known 1806 O-108 coins came from the terminal die state. Since then, the coin has been sold at different auctions at impressive rates.
