Wildlife Beauty of India on Stamps
2017-07-15 Sat
India was once known for its dense forests; the natural beauty of this peninsula was a wonder of nature. But the expansion of civilisation resulted into deforestation. Due to this, the land of Ganga changed from a natural forest beauty to an ugly face of urbanisation. But even today, we can see the glimpse of this geographical wonder in the northeast region of India. Its flora and fauna are the most magnificent creations of nature which will leave you spellbound and make you wonder what a great artist God really is.
The North-east region of India consists of eight states which are also called sister states. This region is endowed with a wide range of physiographic and eco-climatic conditions. The forests present in this region are extremely diverse in anatomy and formation. This forest is a combination of tropical and temperate forest types with alpine meadows and cold deserts.
This area is the richest in biological merits. Due to this, it is home to some of the rare species that are now under a serious threat. To acknowledge this problem, India post has issued a miniature sheetconsisting of animals like Red Panda, Phayre's leaf monkey and Marbled Cat.
The main motto to issue these commemorative stamps was to invite attention to the rich zoological heritage of India and the need to preserve this legacy for coming generations.
