1861 Indian Head gold $3 Piece Auctioned

Stack’s Bowers Galleries offered an 1861 Indian Head gold $3 piece, graded MS-65 for $25,850 the June Whitman Coin and Collectibles Expo in Baltimore Convention Centre.Almost 650 coins from D. Brent Pogue’s collection were offered by Stack’s Bowers and Sotheby’s in May 2015 and none of them returned to the market. An 1861 gold $3 coin graded Mint State 65 was sold for $28,200 at the third Pogue auction on 9th February 2016. It is the finest known out of the low mintage of 5,959 pieces. The offered coin has an impressive lustre along with warm olive iridescence. There are small ticks on Liberty’s chin, neck and tresses.
