The Royal Mint Releases Prince Philip Retirement Coin

A commemorative coin named the Prince Philip Retirement coin was released by the Royal Mint to celebrate Prince Philip’s Contribution to public Life, his country and to The Queen for more than 80 years. Prince of Whales struck the first new £1 coin, at The Royal Mint Experience on 11th July. The reverse featured an image of his father Prince Philip, and the obverse featured an image of his Mother, The Queen.Prince Philip was the President of the Royal Mint Advisory Committee for 47 long years from 1952 to 1999. Every UK coin and medal produced during this time period has been approved by the Prince and his team.
The coin is available in Gold Proof and Silver Proof precious metal finishes apart from collectable Brilliant Uncirculated editions. The coin will be up for sale for the public from 7th August.
