20th Century Rare Chinese Coins Auctioned

Heritage Auctions sold a 1914 Republic Yuan Shih-kai Silver "L. Giorgi" Pattern Specimen Dollar, graded SP65 PCGS, for $77,675 USD at the first Asian Coins and Currency Auctions that took place from 21st to 23rd June in Hong Kong. It is the finest known coin of this type with a clear surface and good technical preservation.

A 1921 Republic Gold "Pavilion" Year 10 Commemorative Dollar, featuring a portrait of President Hsu Shih-chang, sold for $62,737. A People's Republic Gold 32-Piece Panda, graded MS69 NGC, sold for $59,750. The set contained gold one-ounce Pandas in strike format like two 1987-dated examples (Y and S mint) and two 2001 examples (plain and with "D").

A 1904 Kuang-hsü "Small Characters" Tael ND, graded MS64 PCGS, was sold for $59,750. It is the finest-graded example that Heritage has ever offered. A 1910 uniface Hsuan-tung Silver Proof Pattern Empire Dollar ND (1910), graded PR64 PCGS, sold for $50,190. Many other interesting Chinese coins were sold at the auction for impressive rates.
