Gold Certificates at Heritage Currency Signature Auction in Denver

The finest of the 11 known Friedberg 1218f $1,000 Series 1882 gold certificates, graded PCGS Currency Very Fine 35 will be auctioned on 3rd August at the Heritage Currency Signature Auction in Denver during the ANA World’s Fair of Money with an estimated value of $300,000. This note features signatures of Judson W. Lyons and Elias H. Roberts, which clarifies the fact that they were produced between April 1898 and June 1905. Out of the 96,000 notes that were produced, very few survived because of the high face value and the Gold Reserve Act of 1934.A $20 F-1178 issue from the 1882 gold certificate series, graded Superb Gem Uncirculated 67, is the highest grade out of all the 900 known examples. It has an estimate of $50,000 or more. Other highlights include: two PMG VF-30 $1,000 gold certificates, a large-size Series 1907 issue with an estimate of $35,000, a small-size F-2408 Series 1928 note with an estimated value of $20,000; an F-1217 $500 Series 1922 gold certificate, graded PMG VF-25, with an estimated value of $20,000; $20 Series 1890 Treasury note, graded PMG VF-20 with an estimated value of $17,500. Several other rare and interesting currency notes will be offered at the auction.
