The monsoons have arrived! Hope you are enjoying the weather! India is a country where we can experience the beauty of all the three weather: summer, monsoon, and winter. But did you know that according to the Hindu scriptures, the Indian weather is divided into six categories? These six seasons being: Vasant Ritu (Spring), Grishma Ritu(Summer), Varsha Ritu (Monsoon), Sharad Ritu (Autumn), Hemant Ritu (Pre-Winter) and Shishir/ Shita Ritu( Winter).
India Post issued thematic stamps, ‘Rang Ritu’ which describes Indian weather with beautiful vibrant colors. They are selected from the Indian miniature painting depicting various scenes of Indian weather. The four seasons on which the stamps are issued are Vasant, Grishma, Varsha, and Hemant. All the four stamps have the face value of INR 5.
The given stamp depicts the life-giving season ‘monsoon’. The dark bluish-black sky behind with the Krishna at the center and gopis dancing around it with a person on the left playing a musical instrument is a perfect way of portraying Varsha Ritu!
