Rare Qatar and Dubai Color Trial Specimens to be Auctioned

2017-06-22 Thu

Stack's Bowers is going to offer a Qatar and Dubai Colour Trial Specimen grouping in August at the ANA World’s Fair of Money. These 1960s series notes from Qatar and Dubai were circulated for a very short period of time and only a limited number of notes were printed. Only some One Riyal notes are available in high grade. Other denominations are extremely rare in good quality.

Specimen notes are also rare and the one offered is the first colour trial group. All the rare notes in the set have a denomination of more than 10 Rials and are in Uncirculated condition.

The One Riyal is in red colour unlike the normal ones in green inks and is graded PMG 66 EPQ. The Five Riyal note in dark brown colour, not purple is graded PMG Superb Gem 67 EPQ. The 10 Riyal note in the rare purple ink is graded PMG Superb Gem Uncirculated 67 EPQ. 25 Riyals is deep green in colour unlike the actual blue colour and is graded PMG 66 EPQ. The 50 Riyal note comes in a dark brown instead of the bright red and is graded PMG 66 EPQ. The 100 Riyal note is purple in colour unlike the actual olive and is graded PMG 66 EPQ.

The PMG population report does not have Colour Trial Specimens for all denominations. The notes offered at the auction show one or two pieces with the current examples in the finest condition. The stage is set for a grand auction and the excitement levels are sky high!
