Canadian Coin Features a Wolf Using the Zentangle Method
2017-06-20 Tue
A 2-ounce Proof .9999 fine silver $30 coin designed using the Zentangle method was released by the Royal Canadian Mint. By using this unique and easy technique, beautiful images can be created by drawing structured patterns. The reverse features a side-profile of a grey wolf, Canis lupus, using abstract patterns to bring out the beauty of this beast. It also has a wonderful silhouette, distinctive features and a determined gaze. The texture of the wolf’s fur blends with the repetitive abstract patterns created using Zentangle method.
The coin is created using precision engraving and multiple finishes so that each pattern is kept distinct. Contrast and depth are created using shaded elements and thicker lines.
Other Inscriptions on the reverse include 30 DOLLARS, 2017 and CANADA. The obverse recreates one of the reverse design patterns on a larger scale and features the Susanna Blunt portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. The 62.69 grams coin has a mintage limit of 4,000 pieces and can be purchased for $124.95 U.S.
