Revival of the Historic Silk Route on Modern Coins of China

Two silver and one gold commemorative coin celebrating the Belt and Road Forum on 14th and 15th May were issued by China. The One Belt, One Road trade was initiated by President Xi Jinping to connect modern traders across the historic Silk Road. The multitrillion-dollar project works towards building ports, railways and pipelines connecting sea and land network from Asia to Europe. This project would affect 60 countries and 30 percent of the world’s gross domestic product as per some official reports.The reverse of the 15-gram silver 5-yuan .999 fine silver coins, 30-gram silver 10-yuan .999 fine silver coins and 3-gram 50-yuan .999 fine gold coins would feature the official emblem of the project and full name in Chinese and English, but with different decorative elements. The obverse depicts China’s national emblem, the country name and the year of issuance. The silver coins have a mintage limit of 50,000 pieces each, while the gold coins have a mintage limit of 20,000 pieces.
