2017-06-15 Thu
The Royal Mint would be celebrating life and works of the popular author Jane Austin with the release of a special commemorative UK £2 coin for 2017. These coins will be released for circulation at important Jane Austen locations like Winchester and Basingstoke on her death anniversary 18th July. They will be released across the UK by the end of this year.Jane Austen’s works have talked about wealth and social status in detail. She has enthralled readers over two decades and surely deserves to get this honour. Her first novel Sense and Sensibility was published anonymously in 1811 when she was 35 years old. From that point onwards, she went on to become one of the most popular authors of the world.
The coin features a silhouette of Jane Austen, from her era and set against a Regency wallpaper. The silhouette is inspired from one of the houses featured in Austen’s books like Pride and Prejudice, or on the wall in Emma’s home. The coins are available in different versions and finishes like £2 Coin Range, £2 Brilliant Uncirculated coin, £2 Silver Proof coin and the £2 Gold Proof coin.
