Local delicacies of Netherlands are featured on a pane of 10 stamps that were issued on 19th June. Dutch Center for Intangible Cultural Heritage in Utrecht was involved in selecting these delicacies. The labels of the stamps talk about these items.Only two of these stamps depict non-sweet items namely Groningse eierbal (Scotch egg) and Amsterdamse ui (pickled onions). Two pastries namely the chocolaty-creamy Bossche bol and the spiral cinnamon bun, Zeeuwse bolus are featured on two stamps. Two waffle sweets include Drents kniepertie and syrup-filled Goudse stroopwafel. The fruit tart called Limburgse vlaai; Fries suikerbrood (Fresian sweet bread); a tin of candy called Zwolse balletjes; the carnival cake of Tiel (Tielse kermiskoek) are the other mouth-watering desserts depicted on the stamps.
These nondenominated stamps have “1” in the lower left suggesting that they pay the basic domestic rate for letters weighing up to 20 grams. Photographs of models holding these Dutch treats were recreated on stamps. These colourful stamps are definitely worth having in your collection. The stamps were printed by offset in 130,000 panes.
