Strong and furious she stood by her decisions! Indira Gandhi, a woman with a strong will power became the very first lady Prime Minister of India on 24th January 1966.She has made a strong impact on her personality in the minds of the people. Different people have a different outlook in judging her. Some people remember how she came to absolute power, cut down to size the regional barrier, seized their purses, nationalized the bank, remove poverty, won a war against Pakistan, liberated Bangladesh, challenged terrorism in Punjab, sanctioned Operation Bluestar and sent the army into the Golden Temple. Others remember her for imposing the national emergency.
She was the most dramatic face of Indian politics!
In 1985 the Government of India issued a 50 Paisa coin portraying Indira Gandhi. Her name is seen in both in English and Hindi with her birth and death year (1917-1984).
