During the initial years of his reign, Tipu Sultan issued coins featuring the Hijri year, read from left to right. Later, in the fifth year of his reign, he introduced coins featuring the Maludi year, read from right to left.The Half Paisa, also known as Bahram, weighed approximately 5.5–5.8 grams and was minted in Pattan, Bengaluru, Nagar, Farrukh-yab-Hisar, FaizHisar, Nazarbar, Farrukhi, Salamabad, Khaliqabad, Khwurshed-Sawad, and Zafarabad.
The obverse features an elephant facing either left or right, with the Maludi Date written above the elephant or its tail.
