Ramagupta, a Gupta Dynasty king, had a short reign during the latter part of the 4th century, believed to be around 375 CE, succeeding Samudragupta. In one of the battles with the Sakas, Ramagupta lost and agreed to surrender his wife, Dhruvadevi, to the Saka king Rudrasimha III. Chandragupta, Ramagupta's younger brother, was incensed by this. He disguised himself, entered the apartment of the Saka king, and killed him. Chandragupta also killed his elder brother, Ramagupta, married his brother's widow, Dhruvadevi, and ascended the throne.
