The Satavahana dynasty also known as Andhrabhrityas in the Puranas ruled the vast part of India from 2nd century BCE till 2nd century CE.Satavahana King Shri Satakarni issued a square copper Karshapana (5.44g) featuring Gajalakshmi / Abhishek Lakshmi during his rule. Goddess Lakshmi is the deity of prosperity, good luck, and abundance.
The obverse features Goddess Lakshmi seated on a lotus holding two more lotuses in each of her two hands, two elephants on lotus showering water over the goddess, with Brahmi legend Rano Siri Satakanisa, “of King Sri Satakarni” above. The reverse features Ujjaini symbol with svastikas in each of its four orbs, the whole contained in a square border.
