Gold Four and Half Masha of Gahadavalas of Kanauj

This gold four-and-a-half Masha coin was issued by King Govinda Chandradeva of Gahadavalas of Kanauj. The Gahavalas dynasty ruled the part of northern India between the 11th and 13th Centuries.Govinda Chandradeva was one the most powerful king of the Gahadavala dynasty. He ruled this dynasty between 1114 CE and 1155 CE; he faced many invasions from Muslim rulers during his reign. Due to his intellective skills, he was able to save Varanasi from the attack of Masud.
This 3.8g gold four-and-a-half Masha depicts the seated Goddess Lakshmi on the obverse side. The Devanagari legend 'Srimad Govindchandra Deva' is on the reverse side of the coin.
