Commemorative Stamp on World AIDS Day

World AIDS Day, designated on 1st December every year since 1988. This day is dedicated to spreading awareness about the AIDS pandemic caused by HIV infection. Acquired Immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) is a very life-threatening condition caused by the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). The immune system of the patient is affected by this HIV. Thus, the resistance to other viruses is reduced by World Health Organization has marked eleven official global public health campaigns, one of them being World AIDS Day.

AIDS has killed approx. 36.3 million until 2020. An estimated 37.7 people are still living with HIV. HIV is now one of the most problematic global health issues in history records.

We should thank the antiretroviral treatment that has improved access in many regions around the globe. The death rate has decreased by 64% since it peaked in 2004.

The above-given stamp is a commemorative stamp. This multicolour stamp was issued on 1st December 2006 by The Government of India. It has a face value of 5 Indian rupees.
